Quayside New Year’s Eve Fireworks cancelled due to weather.
New Year’s Eve fireworks in Newcastle and Gateshead have been cancelled due to severe weather warnings.
Two fireworks displays were scheduled to take place on the Quayside at 18:00 GMT and midnight; however, Newcastle City Council has determined that the strong and gusty winds pose excessive risks, necessitating the cancellation of the event.
A spokesperson for Newcastle council stated that it was a difficult decision, emphasizing that “safety always comes first.” They expressed hope that the public can still find safe and enjoyable ways to welcome 2025 with family and friends.
A yellow wind warning remains in effect until 23:00 GMT on Tuesday, with the Met Office advising the public to exercise caution.
