Highways North East posted on X: ‘All closures have been removed and the A19 is OPEN in both directions between the A1284 (Testos Roundabout) and the A1231 (Sunderland).

Northumbria Police have issued an appeal after a man in his 40s was found dead after a suspected hit-and-run on the A19.

’All lanes are now open on the A19 northbound between the A183, Sunderland and the A1231 Washington

Earlier this morning:

The A19 in both directions was closed, and there was heavy traffic due to the police incident from A1231 Sunderland Highway (North Hylton) to A184 Newcastle Road (Testo’s Roundabout, West Boldon).

The A19 was closed northbound at the A1231 junction at Sunderland for a police led incident

Traffic is being diverted off at the exit slip and back on at the entry slip (up and over)
