Northumbria Police said they were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a quad bike on the A697 near Whittingham shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 14. It was reported that a white Volkswagen, traveling southbound, collided with a red Honda quad bike. The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time. The quad bike rider, identified as 58-year-old Michael Armstrong from the Thrunton area, was hospitalized for serious injuries but sadly passed away on Monday.
A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Northumbria Police, Inspector Steve Clare, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Michael’s family and loved ones at this tragic time. We will continue to support them in any and every way we can.”
“Our enquiries remain ongoing to establish what happened in the moments leading to the collision.
“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area at this time and may have dashcam footage, or saw the white Volkswagen car or red Honda quad bike.
