Northumbria Police have revealed a man in his 80s has died after a serious collision incident on the A1 near the Metrocentre this morning.

Taking to social media, they said ”APPEAL | Were you travelling on the A1 near to the Metrocentre at around 10.15am today?

You could be witness to a serious collision where a man in his 80s sadly passed away.

It was reported a Scania heavy goods vehicle had been travelling southbound and struck a male pedestrian in the road.

The driver remained at the scene and is assisting with our enquiries.

The man’s next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.

It’s believed the man could be linked to a white Ford Edge car that had been parked nearby.”

They added: ‘We know the road was busy at the time. Did you see anything? Do you have any dashcam footage?
