Luke Littler inspires Blyth dart youngsters
A sports club has reported a significant increase in interest following the victory of teenage darts player Luke Littler at the PDC World Championship.
Darts Academy North East, located in Blyth, Northumberland, caters to young players starting from age seven and was previously averaging around 30 participants. However, this number has now surged to 50, with an additional 25 children currently on the waiting list.
Chairman Simon Tate revealed that many young players enjoy spending hours at the club, playing darts.
Darts Academy North East (formerly known as DNEYA Darts North East Youth Academy) was established by local darts icon Tab Hunter, who dedicated an immense amount of time, effort, and hard work to building the Academy from the ground up.
Following the establishment of a solid foundation, management of the Academy was transitioned to Gav and Donna Kennedy, who continued Tab’s exceptional work.
Under their leadership, the Academy successfully coached and nurtured emerging talent, enabling participants to compete in the JDC World Championships and secure titles at the England National Boys Championships, while also contributing new talent to local counties.
However, the uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic posed a significant risk to the Academy’s viability. In early 2022, the Academy was rebranded as “Darts Academy North East.”
A new venue was secured and an updated coaching team was assembled to continue fostering the growth and development of young players.
