Heaton Church Community garden

Heaton In Bloom as new garden created at local church

A new community garden has been installed at Heaton Baptist Church.

The newly community garden at Heaton Baptist Church will serve as a vibrant hub of natural beauty for residents of Newcastle’s East End.

This new project is supported by a Spaces for Everyone Grant from Newcastle City Council’s Newcastle East High Streets Project.

The project is dedicated to improving green spaces.

Located on Heaton Road, this green oasis provides a serene environment for the community, while also supporting local wildlife.

The project was delivered under the leadership of church member Andy Clarke alongside Brambledown Landscape Services, creating a space that helps bring the community together.

Cllr Dan Greenhough, Newcastle City Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Jobs and Skills said:
“These community-led projects demonstrate the power of listening to residents and working collaboratively to create positive change.

The Heaton community garden and upcoming Chillingham Road Rain Garden show how small changes can make a big impact on the environment and well-being of our communities.”

Rev Dave Tubby, Heaton Baptist Church said: “We are so pleased with how it has turned out. We pray this will be a real blessing to the whole community, bringing life, natural beauty, and a resting place for all those who are passing. We pray too that it will be a wildlife haven for plants, animals and insects in the area.”

The Newcastle East High Streets Project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the North East Combined Authority as the lead authority,

During the project’s 2022 consultation phase, residents highlighted the need for improved greenery, child-friendly spaces, and areas to relax and connect.

This project is part of a broader push to improve public spaces across five local high streets. Another exciting project underway is the Chillingham Road Rain Garden, developed with Chillingham Road Primary School.
