8/12/2024 10.44am: Flooding along A19 Northbound entry slip road

We are receiving reports that the A19 Northbound entry slip road partially blocked due to flooding at A193 Tynemouth Road (this is the Howdon Roundabout).

Train issues

 There are currently delays of up to 30 minutes on Transpennine Express between Morpeth and Berwick-Upon-Tweed due to Storm Darragh.

Tyne and Wear Metro problems

The Tyne and Wear Metro said on: “Staff are still on site at Gosforth Depot investigating the power supply issue there. As soon as we have more information we will provide further updates.

“A 30 minute service is still in operation across the system. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Powercuts

Northern Powergrid have been dealing with powercuts right across the North East, with heavy winds said to have been the cause.

Met Office warnings still in place

A yellow weather warning for wind remains in place for England and Wales into Sunday evening.

Today:

”Rather cloudy morning with outbreaks of rain and showers, heavier bursts at times. Showers may turn wintry across high ground. Showers becoming lighter, fewer and further between Sunday afternoon with bright spells developing. Strong winds with gales, especially towards coasts. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Variable cloud with clearer spells under cloud breaks overnight. Largely dry, although a few isolated showers may feed inland. Strong and gusty winds will steadily ease from the north overnight. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Monday:

Partly cloudy with bright or sunny spells by day. Any overnight fog may be slow to clear. Winds continuing to ease, falling light later. Colder overnight with frost patches developing. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry, bright and more settled conditions with variable cloud and winds falling light. Overnight fog and frost likely becoming more prevalent as winds ease, perhaps persisting in places by day.”
