Redheugh Bridge

There are reports that the Redheugh Bridge is closed to high sided vehicles. We will bring you more as we get it.

A1 Blaydon bridge closed

National Highways North East said on X: “The A1 Blaydon Bridge between J73 the Metro Centre and J74 Denton is closed to high sided and vulnerable vehicles due to strong winds.

“All other vehicles are still able to use the bridge at this time. Please allow extra journey time if you’re affected.”

A1 Western Bypass re-open

There are reports that the A1 Western Bypass in both directions has since re-opened to high sided vehicles, earlier strong winds at J73 A694 Derwenthaugh Road – That is the Blaydon/Consett Turn Off.

Tyne and Wear Metro advice

Tyne and Wear Metro say on X: “Take care when travelling today, weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh means platforms/train floors and station concourses across the network are wet and potentially slippery.”

Gateshead FC postpone game

Gateshead FC has postponed their FA Trophy match against Farsley Celtic, which was scheduled to take place today at the Gateshead International Stadium.

The club announced this decision in a statement posted on social media, which read: “Our FA Trophy tie against Farsley Celtic has been postponed.

“The club appreciates the efforts of today’s match officials in doing their utmost to allow the game to be played as planned, to the desire of both clubs.

“Details on the rearranged date will be confirmed as soon as possible.”

Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, continuing during the evening, driven in on continuing strong winds. Becoming drier during the early hours with winds remaining strong. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Sunday:

Rain and showers becoming lighter, fewer and further between, with more in the way of sunny spells compared with Saturday, especially later. Winds only very gradually easing. Remaining rather cool. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

A marked change into the new working week: becoming settled, with winds falling light to allow overnight fog and frost, perhaps persisting in places in otherwise fine conditions.
