This New Year’s Eve is set to be a memorable occasion in Newcastle, featuring the much-anticipated return of two stunning firework displays along the Quayside.

Back by popular demand for the first time since 2019, these free public displays have been arranged by Newcastle City Council and NE1 as the grand finale of Newcastle’s Christmas 2024 festivities.

This event offers the perfect opportunity for families and revelers alike to ring in 2025 with style, thanks to two spectacular shows organized by the award-winning North East company, Reaction Fireworks.

One hour before each display, the Quayside will host additional entertainment, including engaging walkabout performers and local vendors, alongside a variety of businesses in the area. It’s a great chance to enjoy a complete evening of everything Newcastle has to offer.

A fifteen-minute display is scheduled for 6pm, making it an ideal early celebration for families. A similar display will take place at midnight for those out enjoying Newcastle’s vibrant nightlife.

The designated viewing area on the Newcastle Quayside will offer the best vantage points for both displays, stretching from under the Tyne Bridge to the Cycle Hub, and including Baltic Square on the Gateshead Quayside. The fireworks will also be visible from various locations throughout Newcastle and Gateshead.

Cllr Abdul Samad, Cabinet member for Culture, Music and Arts at Newcastle City Council said: “Newcastle’s Christmas 2024 has been truly exceptional so far, and it gives me great pleasure to announce our plans for New Year’s Eve.

“We are committed to providing excellent, accessible events in Newcastle that can be enjoyed by everyone.

“Local people and visitors to the city have told us their preference is to see in the New Year with fireworks and so having assessed the environmental impact, we have chosen to return this to welcome in 2025.

“We always encourage people to attend organised events such as these, which are safer, more spectacular and take place at specific times so people can plan for them. And as large numbers are expected for both displays, we recommend the use of public transport on the evening.

“In Newcastle we are very lucky to have our magnificent Quayside as the backdrop for these two fabulous displays, offering something for families and revellers alike and the perfect way to welcome in 2025.”

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of NE1 said: “We are absolutely delighted that 2024 will see the return of the much-loved fireworks to Newcastle’s iconic and prestigious Quayside, and that the city will welcome in the New Year in style with a fantastic display taking place in one of the most recognisable cityscapes in the UK.

“Newcastle has a well-deserved reputation as a first-class destination to visit and it is essential that the city’s New Year celebrations are of a level appropriate to that reputation. We are sure that anyone travelling to the Quayside for New Year’s Eve will have a fabulous time and we can’t wait to see the displays.”

The council state there will be road closures in place from 4pm when access to the Quayside and surrounding areas by car will not be possible.
