Newcastle, amongst other cities in the UK, could be preparing for a significant snowfall expected to last approximately 48 hours, as indicated by recent weather forecasts. This event is anticipated to commence by midnight on December 12, with conditions in Scotland expected to intensify further, potentially resulting in snowfall rates of up to 19 cm per hour along the west coast, impacting all major towns and cities.

Snowfall is projected to persist across large areas of the country throughout December 12, gradually easing by midday on December 13. Additionally, central Scotland is expected to experience a severe cold snap, with temperatures dipping to -7°C in the early hours of December 14, this is according to reports in the media and recent Met Office weather warnings.

The most recent information comes from website WXCharts, indicating that the UK is expected to experience snowfall for around 48 hours, commencing on December 11.

Storm Bert recently hit the UK with snow, heavy rain and strong winds, causing disruption on roads and public transport.

Here in the North East, roads were closed, buses struggled to run and flights were even cancelled. Beamish Museum was closed due to the heavy weather conditions, with the team taking to social media to share the news. The Museum later re-opened a day later.
